Fort Leavenworth

Fort Leavenworth

Fort Leavenworth was established in 1827, making it the third-oldest active military installation in the nation.  Known as the "Post that opened the West" and the "Best Hometown in the Army" Fort Leavenworth has much to offer.

Colonel (later Brigadier General) Henry Leavenworth founded Fort Leavenworth on the bluffs of the Missouri River.  For the next several decades' Fort Leavenworth played an important role in keeping the peace among the various Indian tribes and the ever-increasing number of settlers heading West.  By the 1840s, travel to Oregon and California had begun and thousands of wagons passed through Fort Leavenworth on the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails.

*Note: A government-issued photo ID is required to enter the fort, i.e. driver's license.  Please stop at the Visitor Control Center located at 4th and Metropolitan for your daily pass before entering the Fort.  All vehicles must have current tags, proof of insurance, and registration.

The Fort Leavenworth Online Visitor Registration Portal is open for business.   We are no longer issuing paper visitor passes.  They are now all virtual.  A “pass” will be attached to the visitor’s ID in our security scanning system.  Visitors may still use our Visitor Center or the new online portal.

Here are some tips for the system.

•         Click the following link (from a computer or mobile device): https://pass.aie.army.mil/?b=usa&i=fort_leavenworth&t=v

•         Fill in your personal information and visit details. (You cannot register more than 10 days in advance).

•         You’ll be notified via text message if your visitor pass is approved, or if you should go to the

          Visitor Center to request access.

•         When you arrive at the gate, you must present the same driver’s license or passport you registered with online.

•         Special event visitor links can also be created if you’re hosting a special event on Fort Leavenworth (retirement/promotion ceremony, wedding, reception, etc.)

•         Contact the Visitor Control Center (VCC) at 913-684-3600 with questions.

These security measures are to keep all of us safe.
