The "Rookery"

The "Rookery"

The "Rookery" is the oldest surviving building on the fort (circa 1834), and the oldest continuously occupied residence in the state of Kansas.   It is said to have gotten its name from when it housed the single military men in the early 1800's. It also once housed Gen. Douglas MacArthur, then a Lieutenant and an instructor at the Engineer School.
