City staff have presented a proposal for the 2026 Operating Budget to the Leavenworth City Commission. On July 14, staff will present the operating budget to the Commission in detail at an all-day work session. The proposed budget prepares for lower local sales tax collections, a reduction in workforce through attrition and a 10% reduction of overtime in all departments except public safety.
The City of Leavenworth is partnering with the Leavenworth County Emergency Management Office for a texting tool that will benefit the public by providing text or e-mail news notifications. This is a pilot program provided at no additional cost to the City. It provides real-time communication for urgent information — such as City closures or changes in service — to the general public.

The City of Leavenworth is continuing its $2 million investment in City street repair in 2025 with several granite seal projects. In the video, Public Works Deputy Director Mike Stephen explains the value of using granite seal repair. Work is scheduled to begin in September and last 3 to 4 weeks, but is dependent upon weather.

The sixth annual Camp Leavenworth is a free two-day festival that invites everyone to discover the wonders of Leavenworth. Camp Leavenworth will feature Friday night fireworks, family activities, Makers Fair and unique experiences around our historic downtown — people will see how much fun it is to break out from the ordinary and live life free. Leave it to Kansas to throw a shindig as adventurous as this. Admission is free to the public.
