Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported on February 17, 2026 at 1601 Ottawa St.

Around 8:22 am on the 17 of February Water Pollution Control was informed of a sewage coming out of the ground around 1601 Ottawa st and running down into the creek. Water Pollution Control responded to the call and determined that the city main had surcharged, causing sewage to be released through joints in the main around manhole 0812. City staff immediately cleared the main allowing the sewage release. The overflow stopped at approximately 10:15 am. Water Pollution Control estimated 800 gallons of water through the system. City staff also cleaned creek area and put lime down in spots they could. We placed contaminated creek signs out while we performed E-Coli samples. The signs will be removed when it is determined the E-Coli levels in the creek are within acceptable limits set by KDHE. The City would ask that residents stay away from the creek water until signs are removed. The affected areas will be from the 1600 block of Ottawa st to 1400 block of Ottawa st.
