Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported on April 27, 2026 570 Evergreen St

Around 8:30 on the 27 of April, Water Pollution Control was notified of sewage coming out of a manhole. When staff arrived on scene they did notice sewage coming out of the manhole #0787 and flowing into storm box at the corner of Thornton St and 2nd Ave. Water Pollution Control staff found sewer system surcharged, between manhole #0787 through manhole #0803. With heavy rainfall of 2.5 overwhelmed the sanitary sewer system. Which is the main cause of the sanitary sewer overflow at manhole #0807. City jetted main from manhole #0803 towards manhole #0804 which relieved the system. Bypass system ended at 11:30 am. City staff cleaned area and put line down around manhole #0787. Water Pollution Control Estimated 9000 gallons of wastewater was released from the system. Creek will be tested to determine if the E-Coli levels in the creak are within acceptable limits set by KDHE. The City would ask that residents stay away from the creek water until testing is done and signs are removed. the affected areas will be from the corner of Thornton St. and 2nd Ave. to the 2200 block of 2nd Ave.
