Sanitary Sewer Overflow Report - Feb. 25, 2025 at 900 blocks of Kickapoo and Kiowa streets
At 1:37 p.m. on February 25, 2025, Water Pollution Control was doing a routine check of the City’s creek crossing when they noticed the tracer dye they were using could be seen in the creek. Water Pollution Control staff found the sewer system surcharged, between the 900 blocks of Kickapoo and Kiowa Streets which caused the sanitary sewer to overflow from the sanitary sewer main near manhole Number 0119. City staff cleared the blockage in the main. Bypass of the system ended at 2:50 p.m. City staff cleaned the creek area and pumped wastewater back into manhole Number 0119. Water Pollution Control estimated 400 gallons of wastewater was released from the system. Creek will be tested to determine if the E. coli levels in the creek are within acceptable limits by KDHE. The City asks that residents stay away from the creek water until testing is done and signs are removed. The affected areas will be the 900 blocks of Kiowa and Ottawa Streets.
