Sherman Army Airfield
(913) 651-0111
The City of Leavenworth has a joint-use agreement with the Department of the Army for the use of Sherman Army Airfield at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. The airfield is located on Ft. Leavenworth, approximately one-mile north of the City of Leavenworth. Although this is a military airfield, civilian access is unlimited. Civilian air traffic may land and takeoff without any prior notice or permission.

Sherman Army Airfield has Runway 15-33 that is 5905' x 100' and is capable of accepting wheel loads beginning at 32,000 lbs. The runway can accommodate loads up to a dual double tandem (99,000 lbs). The airport features VASI approach lighting and pilot-operated runway/taxiway lights for night use. The runway has four, non-precision approaches for all weather conditions. An on-site automated weather observation station (AWOS) provides current and accurate weather conditions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The airport is staffed with a competent fixed based operator (FBO) that offers a variety of aviation services. Some services provided include aircraft fueling (Jet A, 100LL), catering, tie down/hangar space, rental cars, computerized flight planning, aircraft repair and parts. The airport has daily operations of military, corporate and private aircraft.
